Colorful dragon boats from all over Cambodia meet at the Tonle Sap River. More than 420 boats have joined the annual races. The boats are manned by dozens of rowers. They speed across the rough waters in front of the royal palace in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. [Chea Phirum, Rower]:
"There are a lot of special boats and they are strong so when the race is on they are running next to each other and it looks great." The three-day Water Festival takes place on the full moon of the 12th lunar month. It attracts hundreds of thousands of people to the capital city. [Phea Kim Leang, Spectator]:
"The rowers wear colorful dresses on the long boats and there are many people watching so it looks nice." Cambodia's King Sihamony is also attending the event. The monarch lit an enormous boat festooned with lights under the night sky. The festival commemorates a time in ancient history when Cambodia defeating its enemies using boats.
